This week marks the 4th straight week that we’ve dealt with a new customer or company that’s been hacked.
So the question is, “how do I know if I’ve been hacked?” and then more importantly “what can I do about it?”
In one case, our technician made some changes to the router and within one minute the hacker changed them back, BEFORE we could reset them, thus keeping the network port open. Very bold indeed! Unfortunately most people don’t know what to do or how to do it and there isn’t a UnHackers Tool, just download this! (Because it’s probably a hack tool itself!)
Since this blog isn’t long enough to give you every test or tool to run, let’s keep it simple. There are 4 things that are pretty important. First, keep your windows firewall on, second, keep your anti-virus updated, and third, keep your operating system updated through Microsoft updates, and lastly run a third party or online scan once a week.
Your firewall, anti-virus and windows updates settings are easy to find. Go to <Start> then <Control Panel> whether it’s Windows XP, Vista or 7 you’ll see Windows Firewall or Automatic Updates or Windows Defender or Security Center. Check the status of each of these to make sure that they are currently updated and running effectively. If you can’t turn on your Firewall or your Automatic updates are greyed out with no option to change then Houston we have a problem. If you just don’t want to mess with it, call us, we mess with it and IT every day.
